Loutraki Print E-mail
This is the place where you find the ideal combination of Greek hospitality, history and culture. Loutraki is located only 75 km/46 miles from Athens, which makes the access very easy and smooth, and has during the last year gone through a tremendous “face lift”. It has become one of the favourite holiday resorts of the Greeks, which probably is the best recommendation the place can get.

Small taverns, international restaurants, ouzeries and some of the best souvlaki-places in Greece are just a small selection of the culinary surprises that Loutraki offer to its visitors. Taste the wines from the area of Nemea, few kilometres away, which produce some of the most acknowledged wines in Greece. Drink and enjoy the mineral water. The city has taken its name after its thermal springs, and Loutraki is today world known for its high quality of mineral water which is also exported to many countries. You can also enjoy the water in the well established spa and hydrotherapy centre.

At the very end of the long beach promenade, you find the biggest casino in Europe.  At Casino Loutraki you can try your luck, or just pass for a good time in excellent surroundings.

Shopping in Loutraki is attractive, and if you need even more shops, a trip to Athens is only 1 ½ hour away by the local bus. If you like, you can combine a shopping day in Athens with a visit to Acropolis. There are lots of daily departures from Loutraki.

Rent a car for a day and drive to the Corinth Canal, a few minutes drive from Loutraki. Make a stop for a coffee or souvlaki at the edge of the canal at Istmia and
study the old bridge, which sinks into the bottom of the canal, every time a ship is crossing… The 6 km. long canal, which was consecrated in 1893, makes the journey between Patras and Athens 200 nautical miles shorter and the seafarers save a daytrip round Peloponnese, going through the canal.

Make also a visit to some of the biggest cultural treasures in Greece: the Royal Tombs and the “Lions Gate” at Mycenae and the ancient theatre in Epidaurus with the cult of Asklepios and the holly snake, which symbolizes the art and practice of medicine. The Ancient Town of Corinth where St. Paul lived and preached for two years, is just 20 min. drive from Loutraki. The remains of the city, which include the Agora (market place) and Apollo’s Temple (6th century B.C.) clearly shows how rich and important Corinth was in Ancient Times. Make a stop at the site of the Ancient Port of Cehries, where St. Paul disembarked, and enjoy a nice lunch at the sea side…

The days can also be spent by relaxing at the 2 km. long beach. In the summer time a rich variety of sea sports are offered.

Loutraki has a lot to offer and if you first experience it, you will very easily become a repeated visitor…
